Rain is lessening, birds are chirping, flowers are blooming, and it’s beginning to feel a lot like summer is just around the corner in the Pacific Northwest. With the changing of seasons comes a wealth of activities for Portlanders of all ages, and we are grateful to live in an area that puts such an emphasis on lifetime involvement in the community. If you’re looking for activities, hobbies and happenings to get involved with this coming season, we’ve got you covered!
Metro Movers M – Cooper Mountain Nature Park In-Person | Age 60+ | Monday, June 6 | 10AM – 12PM | Fee: $2.00 Must be able to walk a 25-minute mile without shortness of breath. Sturdy footwear required.
Day hiking is a great way to maintain and improve your physical fitness while also giving you the opportunity to experience the natural beauty and history of the area. Enjoy panoramic views of the city and Cascade Range, forested corridors, local rivers, native plants and birds.
Excursion – PDX Bridges South In-Person | Age 60+ | Tuesday, June 14 | Fee: $15.00 Walking distance is approximately 2-3 miles. This trip is not accessible to those using mobility devices, including walkers, wheelchairs and motorized scooters.
This waterfront loop will take you from the Yamhill District to the historic Hawthorne Bridge. After crossing the Hawthorne Bridge on foot, participants will explore the east bank of the Willamette River, passing OMSI’s Riverwalk exhibit, to the Tilikum Crossing Bridge. After crossing the Tilikum Crossing Bridge, there is an option to return to our starting point via MAX or by walking along the west bank.
Summer Art for Seniors In-Person | Age 60+ | June 22 – Jun 24 | Sundays, 10:30AM – 12PM | Fee: $70.00 Enrollment opens on May 23 at 12:30PM; 10 openings
Color, line, shape and pattern. Put them together and what do you get? In this three-session workshop you will discover how these elements of art, combined with your own creativity, can result in work that is beautiful and original, realistic or abstract, fun and relaxing.
Lawn Bowling In-Person | Age 60+ | Jun 12 – July 3 | Fee: $15.00 Enrollment opens on May 23 at 12:30PM; 16 openings
Experience the classic sport of lawn bowling. Game play is equal regardless of age or gender. Discover the basic techniques and strategies, then build skill through hands-on coaching and games on the green. Lawn bowling is a dynamic outdoor game that can be an individual or team sport. Join in for gentle exercise and friendly competition in a relaxed social atmosphere.
Chair Yoga In-Person | Seniors | Weekly on Wednesdays from 10AM – 11AM
Improve mobility and fitness, while also taking the time to connect with the community during this weekly yoga class designed for all abilities and levels of mobility! Chair Yoga takes place in-person at the Hollywood Senior Center each week on Wednesdays from 10-11AM.
